Joe Jonas is opening up about the "mixed emotions" he felt closing out the Jonas Brothers' 20th anniversary tour last year — and his excitement for getting back on the road
On his way to Coachella last week Jonas told PEOPLE that he's been in "dad mode" since the Jonas Brothers ended the North American run of their Greetings From Your Hometown tour in December
In May, the Brothers will head to Buenos Aires, Argentina for two shows before a pair of shows in Chile and a finale in Brazil
After spending the last several months in “dad mode,” Joe Jonas is gearing up to hit the road again with the Jonas Brothers as the band brings their Greetings From Your Hometown tour to South America.
Joe, 36, and his brothers Nick and Kevin made 74 stops around North America last year as they celebrated their milestone 20 years as a band. As the tour came to a close at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. in December, Joe was moved to tears as he and his brothers took their final bow.

“That was a really special tour for us. Celebrating 20 years of the Brothers and our journey, I don't take it for granted,” he told PEOPLE recently on his way to Coachella, where he hosted a party at the Aperol Day Club on Friday, April 10. "We extended that tour so long. We didn't anticipate such a reaction … to see how many people showed up and made us feel so welcome, it filled our hearts.”
On the flip side, he explains, "it also took me away from my family, my kids for a little while. It's hard for me, when I'm touring, I can't really just take three days, four days off to go fly to be with them. So there's a lot of mixed emotions," he says of his daughters Willa, 5½, and Delphine, 3½, who he shares with ex-wife Sophie Turner. "I love what I do, and I'm so grateful that I can make people feel joy and happiness through music and distract them sometimes from crazy things that are going on in their own lives."

And now, after some much-deserved time away, the brothers will be back on stage April 30 at the Yaamava' Resort & Casino in Highland, Calif. before heading to Buenos Aires, Argentina where they'll perform for two nights before a pair of shows in Chile and a finale in Brazil.
"I love touring. It's so fun,” he says. "I've been just really in dad mode since January. I mean, I've been writing and stuff, but touring really has not been on my brain. So to go back out, I'm looking forward to it. We haven't been to some of these countries in a long time. It's overdue and the fans are eager and patiently waiting … We've got a lot of surprises planned."

And speaking of surprises, following his appearance at Coachella — where he made a cameo during Teddy Swims' set — Joe was off to the Masters golf tournament before he joined Demi Lovato onstage during the opening night of her tour to sing duets of “This is Me” and “On the Line."
